LISTEN TO YOUR BODY
You’ve probably heard this before; however, it meant little to me until I was the one being told, " You have colorectal cancer." If you are experiencing something out of the ordinary, such as pain or discomfort that will not go away, call your doctor.
OBTAIN FAMILY MEDICAL HISTORY
This can be a useful tool for your doctor to determine if you are at risk for certain types of cancer. I found out that my maternal grandfather had colorectal cancer. If I had known this, I would have been screened at an early age. He wasn’t as lucky as I was.
ASK FOR HELP IF YOU NEED IT
Family and friends are invaluable as support during cancer treatment.
FIND SOMETHING THAT WILL TAKE YOUR MIND AWAY FROM CANCER
My husband built a pond in our backyard for my “peaceful place.”
