Weird Chemo Side Effect

Hi, I'm sweetpea

Today was my first infusion only chemo treatment after colon cancer surgery. This evening when I start to eat or drink I get terrible pains in my saliva glands at my jaw joints for 30 seconds that then go away and I can eat or drink normally but if I stop for half an hour and start I get the 30 second pain again.

Hi, I'm Jeff

Never experienced that, but what I did experience was neuropathy in the fingers and feet, after six months ending chemo, I still have foot neuropathy. Had an eye infection during chemo and some tiredness, but that’s about it. With this virus, you can’t be too careful with lower infectious control.

Hi, I'm Kay G L.

I have experienced this and I believe the chemotherapy is similar for pancreatic cancer. I was told to drink only room temperature or warm beverages, nothing cold. Hope that helps.

Hi, I'm mcclatcL

This is completely normal. It is called first bite. I get this all the time. I get my treatments for colon cancer every two weeks. About 5-6 days after treatment it goes away until next treatment.

Hi, I'm Bryan T S.

It is normal. I hjad chemo for colon cancer here in 2013. Sharp pain for a moment just before or as you start to eat. Don’t worry you’ll have up to 30 more side effects of different other kinds as you progress through these weeks and months. Just take it one day at a time and you’ll make it like I did!

I have experienced the symptoms in the jaw. It is a blocked saliva gland that is bothersome when I eat. Especially a few days after chemo. Mine has lasted a couple of weeks. And get better. What helps is drink from a straw, suck on lemon candy. I use lemon heads. It helps to stimulate the gland and help to unblock it. Hope this helps
