Flu Shot

Hi, I'm Frances L B.

I’m current in chemo for Hodgkins lymphoma. Has anyone had the flu shot while undergoing treatment and any side effects? Thank you

Hi, I'm Betti

You should discuss this with your doctor(s) as it’s my understanding that chemo. can compromise one’s immune system for a time.

Hi, I'm Barbara

definitely discuss with your doctor. Mine told me to have it if I could do it a certain amount of time before treatment. That treatment could affect the help the shot could give.

Hi, I'm MamaCat

I was under the impression (perhaps wrongly) that getting vaccines while undergoing chemo is a bad idea. Definitely ask your oncologist.

Hi, I'm DIANE M.

I think you shouldn’t do it without talking to your doctor. I am on a maintenance chemotherapy drug daily but am receiving all the vaccines in a very controlled manner since I had a stem cell transplant. I did get the flu shot and also pneumonia vaccines which made me feel much safer going into winter.

I'm Karen N M., and I'm a survivor of Stage 1 Breast Cancer

I had breast cancer in late 2017 and asked my oncologist about the flu shot. She advised me to get it, but asked me to schedule it in the middle of my chemo. I did, and had no side effects from either chemo or the flu shot. Talk to your oncologist about timing.

Hi, I'm James D A.

Flu shot isn’t a live virus. I was advised to get it

Hi, I'm Kim Hanson

I got it in the middle of my chemo. Oncologist said fine as long as I was well. I have breast cancer though so as other posters have said talk to your oncologist as they know you and treatment. I also had no side effects.
