Doxil for chemotherapy

Hi, I'm Rose D.

Can anyone tell me their experience with Doxil? My Dr is suspecting a first remission for a stage 3 ovarian cancer and said that we would attack it with Doxil. He said I HAVE TO have a port with it because it is very hard on the veins.

Hi, I'm Carol L M.

Yes, I’ve had Doxil but not as a single agent. I had it with Carbo. This was for recurrence of ovarian cancer after being in remission for a year. I do not have a port. It was not suggest I get one for Doxil. I didn’t finish my treatments because I experienced a small bowel obstruction and spent a week in the hospital waiting for it to pass. I’m afraid this might not be much help to you. I did have blood count and platelet count issues. Since I was on two drugs it was hard to know what was doing what. It did not slow the growth of my cancer. I am Stage 3C. I wish you the very best.

Hi, I'm Rose D.

Carol, are you having any treatment now to control your disease? Also did you have any collapse of your veins during the chemo?

Hi, I'm Carol L M.

I am not under any treatment at this time. My recurrence cancer has not responded to any chemo and I have done two immunotherapy trials as well. Very discouraging. I will meet with my oncologist this week to see if he has any suggestions. I have not had any vein collapse. The first poke might not work because my veins roll, but the second attempt usually does.

I am on Doxil now and yes, a medport is advisable ! Very toxic to the tissues. I have had no major issues with it thus far.Due for my second dose in 2 weeks.Be strong!

Hi, I'm Tina

My doctor is also suggesting Doxil for a recurrence after just having finished carbo and taxol in June. There are lots of options and combos of drugs. It is so confusing. Any input is most welcome.
