Giving Back as a Supporter
Being a supporter means...
Added Feb 9, 2014From the moment I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer I had an outrageously much needed support system. So much of my support was surprising to me and I am most thankful them all. When I was able to start doing for myself again and found that a friend had gotten a diagnosis of cancer and was starting chemo I stepped up offering to take her to her…

my experience as a supporter.
Being a supporter means...
Added May 27, 2013I have helped Bruce Maddox with his journey with cancer since 2008 It has been something I have never experience before. At times I felt scared because the responsibility of getting him to his various appointments have been my sole responsibility not sure how he was going to come out and in addition maintain a job to keep the bills being paid…

My husband
Being a supporter means...
Added Dec 27, 2012My husband got diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer on July 5th 2011 with met to the liver. He was only 38 years old. This was a big shocker to us and the family. He started chemo on Aug 2011 and on Nov 2011 when he got his first PetScan it showed that the cancer was no longer there. The doctor said he was in metabolic remission…the cancer cells …

5 Ways to Save Somebody’s Life: How to be there for friends in need.
Being a supporter means...
Added Dec 18, 2012I preface this by saying I didn’t write this, Lance Marshall did on his blog. The link is at the bottom. I relate to it so much, so I’m posting it.
When someone is very ill (or experiencing grief, loss, or hardship of any kind), their world has splintered, and the divisions are sharper and clearer than before. Physical, spiritual, emotion…

my sisters
Being a supporter means...
Added Dec 22, 2010I have 3 sisters who had breast cancer before I did. They were a wonderful support. One sister told me that she threw up only once during chemo. I saw that as a challenge so I did everything I could to not throw up and I never did. Then another of my sisters was diagnosed with breast cancer. Now I and my other sisters are her support.

My family and friends have been great!
Being a supporter means...
Added Apr 30, 2010It means a lot to me that I’ve got some great support. A supporter to me, is someone who isn’t afraid to talk with me about my journey with my disease. Who isn’t afraid to talk about everything else, besides my disease. I’ve had some good friends disappear during this…I’m not 100% sure why…maybe they can’t handle this. Well, crap, I can’…

Support and Compensating
Being a supporter means...
Updated Mar 24, 2015Being a supporter means not overcompensating. Jenna was recently diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma (February 6, 2010). She was beginning the preparation stage of High School graduation, and suddenly we had a major obstacle in our way.
Jenna quickly learned that my husband and I would go to great lengths (hence our new puppy) in trying to co…

Supporting a Stranger
Being a supporter means...
Added Mar 18, 2010I’ve heard people say, “Everyone is affected by or has known someone with cancer,” ad infinitum, mostly because it’s true. But knowing someone with cancer and supporting someone with cancer are two very different things. And for some, support is a luxury.
I don’t know how many people are dealing with cancer without the help of others, but I h…

Being a supporter means
Being a supporter means...
Added Feb 14, 2010Cancer and illness makes some people very uncomfortable. I think that it is just important to realize that the person is still the same person that you’ve always known. It is just that they are going through a very difficult time. It is important to just be yourself around them. Just listen to them and try to refrain from giving too much advice….
