My diagnosis
Added Apr 16, 2015I have low blood platelets. I was scheduled for knee replacement surgery a month ago. Was all ready to go and waiting for the doc to come in. I was prompted to ask what my platelets count was. When Dr. Momburger came in he said sorry we cannot do the surgery as your platelets are too low. So, took iv out, got dresses, and went to breakfast w…

Not allowing cancer to define me
Living with cancer
Added Mar 28, 2015I found this hard to do, that is all people ask about once they found out. I allowed it to cause me to be a bit of a recluse and to hid out in my home. I have came to the understanding that it doesn’t matter if cancer is the end result of my time in the physical world, but what I do on a daily bases with what time I have left in the physical …

Cancer - The Secret Change
Living with cancerThis article, so very well written by a practicing oncologist, is superb! Dr. Salwitz truly captures the feelings that I (and probably thousands of other cancer patients) have. Cancer does suck! My cancer is rare. It grows slowly, but it grows. I do not “look like I have cancer.” I hear so often,“You really look great.” The problem is I …

My diagnosis
Updated Jan 7, 2015So after waiting about 2 weeks to hear from the Cleveland Clinic, we finally heard from the surgical oncologist today. I wish I could tell you that the Spokane pathology clinic was right, and our doctor’s gut feeling was wrong. But I can’t tell you how grateful I am he followed his gut and we are getting a correct diagnosis.
So this is wh…

Stage II Colon Cancer
My diagnosis
Added Dec 7, 2014July 25, 2014, I had double Ostamies (colon and bladder) installed due to radiation scar tissue from cervical cancer 40 years ago. It is what it is. Might as well find some humor in your journey.
Living with cancer
Updated Oct 26, 2013I was diagnosed last February (2013) with stage IV lung cancer. A shock to me, needless to say, as a non-smoker. Unless of course you count those funny things I smoked back in college 40 years ago.
Besides the support of family and friends, I have found keeping my sense of humor throughout my journey has been the best medicine, other than the…

A Summary of My Chemo Experience
What I've learned
Added Jan 7, 2010This is a summary of the chemo treatment I survived. I have never experienced anything like this. Radiation, and even surgery, was a breeze in comparison:
6 treatments, one every 21 days:
- for each treatment, Brad and I were there 2.5 to 4 hours (always had the bloodwork and meeting with the doctor a day or 2 before treatment)
- #2 …
